Hi Team;
I plan to migrate notmuch-emacs debian packaging to use the tool (that I
co-maintain) dh-elpa. This will allow dropping the custom maintainer
scripts [1]. It will also make the debian version of notmuch-emacs show
up in M-x package-list-packages, and allow us to use the package.el
facilities to e.g. generate autoloads files (if desired).
As a side effect, I will add packaging metadata for package.el
(notmuch-pkg.el, with version in it).
dh-elpa is available in jessie-backports, and in ubuntu 16.04 and later.
It should also be easy to install from source in other derivatives; if
not please let us know at debian-emacsen at lists.debian.org
