Perhaps it is, but then again, spelling errors may be considered as
being indicative of the quality of the project as a whole, so it
wouldn't hurt to keep them to a minimum.

Exactly!

"American and Canadian spelling accepts only -ize endings in
most cases, [...]" [1]  :)
